We are an active participant in on-going industry sponsored material research as well, and currently serve on the National Pool Industry Research Center’s Advisory Board of Directors. As a result, we can offer you the latest in material technology; including glass, pebble, quartz, and polished finishes with top grade inorganic pigments. These materials and our professional craftsmanship will insure that you receive the most beautiful and durable surface finishes for your pools, spas, and fountains available today.

Our Products

We only use the most innovative and highest quality materials throughout our application processes. From our bonding agents and cements to the actual decorative aggregates your customers will get the beautiful look and finish they are desiring. While we offer white plaster material, we recommend highly that you take advantage of the durability of 100% white quartz for all of your customer’s white finish needs. For more colorful and creative designs we offer a variety of Pebble, Sandstone, Hydrazzo, and Beadcrete finishes. The options you can offer your customers is only limited by their imagination.

In addition to our plastering expertise, Alan Smith also offers deck and rock coating, new decks and deck pavers, rock scapes and rock waterfalls, a variety of water features and fountains, fencing, barbeques, fireplaces, and hardscape and softscape. We can meet separately with your customers or we can arrange a mutually convenient meeting time for both of us with your customer. We want to partner with you to help expand your sources of revenue.

Initial Water Treatment

The initial water treatment (IWT), sometimes referred to as an “initial start-up” or “pool start-up”, is a critical final step in the process of resurfacing and remodeling a swimming pool, and can provide an additional source of revenue for you. The initial water treatment will give a new plaster finish the best environment from which to cure and build a strong protective surface layer. We believe this initial water treatment step is vital to providing a longer life and beautiful appearance to a new swimming pool finish.

Once a swimming pool is full of water again, several procedures need to be performed to allow the surface to cure as evenly as possible. The first seven days is the most important time in the life of a plaster surface. While calcium carbonate is being formed to harden the surface, dust is created that must be treated chemically and physically to ensure proper curing and exposure. Careful testing and the addition of the correct chemicals is crucial to maintain the alkalinity, pH, and calcium hardness during start-up. Re-balancing the water at the end of the procedure must be done carefully so that a “chemical fallout” doesn’t occur. Upon completion of the initial water treatment, the surface is now ready to take on the harsh chemical environment necessary to maintain a beautiful and safe swimming pool.

This process requires regular attention and service during the first seven days. We have a detailed program designed for each type of pool finish we offer here at Alan Smith. As a pool service company professional you are equipped to perform these critical procedures.
